I think I get why the core classes are restricted to certain race/alignment combinations. But for the sake of player freedom I thought it would be interesting to fill out all possibilities for starting characters by adding new racial abilities and alignment goals. Why not play as an evil dwarf bard?
To help come up with stuff that fits the canon, I made a spreadsheet that shows the existing stuff alongside the gaps. Does anyone have ideas for these? I have some thoughts, but I’m definitely stumped on a few (what does a good barbarian want to do?).
To emphasize that these combinations are odd and should be played differently than the canonical ones, I also added a new starting move that makes it a little harder to blend in with normal society.
I allowed any race combination in my dw campaign and said we would come up with racial moves as needed.
Everyone chose to play a human, except the golem.
Grab a copy of Johnstone Metzger ‘s Class Warfare and go nuts, there are HEAPS of these odd combinations if you want them.
Stephanie Bryant no flesh golem?
He wanted to be a giant robot. Who am I to say no?

Stephanie Bryant Played a Warforged Barbarian in my last long form DW game. Giant robots are fun; good on ya for letting em into your campaign.
Anyway, seconding extant remarks. Class Warfare has a lot of juice to work with, and coming up with custom moves can be pretty quick if you know what you want. The book has suggestions for coming up with new alignments as I recall, though I’m not sure about race moves.
Robert Finamore Thanks! I figured someone must have thought of this already. I think I’ll try to improve on them a bit, though.
