The Truthbrand

A bracelet of 26 flat crystal/stone beads (or maybe iron coins), each with a single letter of runic alphabet engraved on each face, or cast right through.

When you ask a question of the bracelet, it will brand the letters of response into the wrist of its wearer.

The wearer will need to unscramble the response, entertaining the possibility that it might require repeated letters.

Take a week to heal this between uses or risk confusing the answer with the lingering extra letters.

It’s a direct line to a demon. Maybe it is trapped in the bracelet, bound to answer truthfully until the bracelet is broken, releasing it. Once released, it only tells lies out of spite, but don’t let the players know. It might not even let them live.

  1. :/

The character is wearing a bracelet, and the letters are burned on their arm.

“I look at my arm” says the player “and read the letters burned thereupon”

“Here is a piece of paper” says the GM “circling which letters you see branded upon your arm”

“Thanks” says the player “this seemed very complex for some obscure reason, but now it is so clear to me”

  2. Character decides to use it before the scars of the last answer have healed, you circle the same piece of paper. If they wait for it to heal, you get a fresh sheet.

  3. Also, you could simulate it with a custom move, like “When you try to puzzle out the meaning of the branded letters, roll +INT. 10+ useful answer, secret info and +1 forward. 7-9 confused answer, throw an hint to the players. 6- LOL “
