The document released with Monsterhearts Second Skins says it is a rough playtest draft. Are there specific things you would like feedback on? Or a format you would like feedback in?

Will you be releasing the formatted character sheets soon? Or saving that for a later date?

  1. Thanks! I’m glad you’re excited about it!

I will take whatever feedback I can get. Sometimes I just like reading peoples’ AP posts about Dungeon Planet, but if you have thoughts about the game, share them in whatever way you are most comfortable with.

I didn’t make any character sheets because I have been meaning to redo all the Dungeon Planet sheets. I should probably get on that!

  2. The Other has a few moves (enslaved, tell tale heart) that reference Isolation. Should those reference Alienation instead? Or is Isolation a separate thing?

  3. Goddammit, did I not catch all those? Apparently, I didn’t. Yeah, where it says Isolation under Enslaved and once under Tell-Tale Heart (and once under The New Moves), it should say Alienation.

  4. I wonder if the “End of Session” move needs to be tweaked for this setting?  On the other hand, I’ve been puzzling on it for half an hour or so and don’t have any better suggestions, so maybe they are fine?

  5. It may end up being super-weird to ask them as a group. Like, the easiest way to loot a memorable treasure is to take it from Space Wurm, right? But “the PCs as a group” can’t really do that. So maybe ask Space Wurm and Moonicorn separately, and if they say yes to a question, any other PC who helped or also did the same as one or both can mark XP as well.

  6. I’m pretty excited! We started some of the world / character building for our Space Wurm vs. Moonicorn campaign tonight.  So far we have Space Wurm, Moonicorn, The Mogul, The Spy, and one player yet to decide.  Space Wurm will control The Secret Police and the Spice. There will be no Aliens or Religion.

  7. Finally go the chance to play our first session. It was awesome! Sadly our Spy couldn’t make it out to this one, but we had Space Wurm, Moonicorn, The Mogul and The Other.

A little write up / scene breakdown of our session is here: http://goo.gl/PvDuuZ

I did find myself with a bit of a puzzle when it came to what to prepare for the first session.  I wonder if a little bit of additional, SWvMC specific, guidance would be a good addition.

DW tends to suggest not even thinking about fronts for a first session, and instead think about asking questions an leaving blanks, etc.

But with Space Wurm vs. Moonicorn, you know what the fronts are as soon as Space Wurm makes a few decisions, and Space Wurm knows they have to defeat those fronts to win the game, and to be fair to Moonicorn, if you don’t push the fact that they are hunted then Space Wurm might get more chances to face their dangers than Moonicorn does which wouldn’t be fair.

I ended up splitting the difference; I used the planet generating rules from Dungeon Planet and the steading Rules from DW to generate a situation with lots of tensions in it that reference and introduce the fronts and foreshadow some dangers, but didn’t really provide a lot of opportunity to face them directly.

The approach seemed to work pretty good, and now that all the characters have met each other, and the players have a sense of what is going on, I can see them already start to plot how to move themselves towards their goals.

All in all an entirely positive experience, and I can’t wait for the next game!
