Has anyone run RK1: Knives in the Dark (or would Johnstone Metzger like to weigh in)? I’m considering running it for a public-play game at my FLGS, but need to plan ahead for the number of sessions I’ll need for the adventure. We play for 2-2 1/2 hours once a week.

  1. Character creation for 5 people, including the setup material in the book, can take about 2 hours (or it can for me and 5 people who are familiar with DW, anyway).

Careful adventurers should be able to get through the mining camp and half the adventure in about 2 hours. Reckless dungeoneers can do it much faster.

The rest depends on how fast things happen. It could take another 2 hours to finish the dungeon, or the shadow dragon could show up and one 30-minute fight later, the whole thing is over. Then there’s the post-dungeon adventures, fighting the assassins in town or trying to get rid of an entrenched shadow dragon.

I’d budget 2 sessions of play, at 2-2.5 hours each, not including character creation, plus more depending on how much you want to dig into the material. Honestly, I feel like you have a lot of control over the pace with this one, as the GM.
