I’ve been asked to run a DW demo at Free RPG day in June. Any suggestions? I’m thinking about the Slave-Pits by Johnstone Metzger. I’ve read that others have had a lot of success with that one.

Doing the same thing here in Charlotte., NC. Slave Pits is a good scenario, btw.
Wasn’t me! Jason Morningstar did that one. But I hear it’s pretty good, too.
Johnstone Metzger Enjoyed reading Fire Mountain, btw. You taking a break from DW?
Sorry, Johnstone Metzger, I meant Jason Morningstar. Sometimes I get my DW heroes mixed up.
It’s not so bad getting mistaken for him! Rowdy Scarlett A break from that sort of adventure module, yes. Gotta branch out.
Only one DW hero in this room and it is you my friend!
Whenever I run a DW demo and I know I have a limited amount of time, I pretty much always use a tweaked version of Slave Pit because it gives the group an easy focus so they can concentrate on learning the system, and it does fit nicely into two hours.
The three tweaks I use are:
1) Put all the PC’s starting gear (and the Ranger’s animal companion) in the orc leader’s room, and give the whipmaster the Fighter’s signature weapon. That way the gear-dependent classes don’t get screwed, and it’s always great seeing the Figter’s player’s reaction when you say “through the gate, you see a bunch of orcs approaching, and behind them is a larger orc who is clearly their leader, and is wielding a very familiar looking axe.”
2) Anyone with spell-like abilities starts with a magical collar around their neck that “locks in” their spells, preventing characters from using spell-like abilities until they get the key off the goblin.
3) When they reach the statue outside Dhrazu’s lair, I let everyone get a full heal and level up (thanks to the god of the statue) just to show that off.
Those are super smart tweaks Sean.
Thanks!
