Are there any good spaceship combat rules out there for the *World engine? I know that at least one person is writing a space opera hack, but I haven’t seen the combat rules yet.

Yeah, you can find some very nice rules on Inverse World, Mounted Combat and Adventures on Dungeon Planet suplements.
I must admit that these supplements are tied in terms of awesomeness!
Andri Erlingsson has made a mounted combat supplement, which Inverse World has taken and adapted to airships and such. You could write up spaceship “mounts” or adapt the material from there.
You can do a lot of stuff through fiction as well.
