How do people handle characters changing classes before level 11 if the fiction demands it? I had a paladin roll 7 on Last Breath, and Death’s bargain was for him to slay his god (maybe not the best bargain, but seemed cool in the moment). So, he accepted, but it didn’t really feel appropriate for him to remain a paladin, and a CC didn’t seem a drastic enough change. In the end we just followed the rules for what you do at level 11: he started over at level 1 of his new class but kept all his stats and one move from the paladin.

  1. If you left him as a paladin then he’d be a lying paladin, which could make for fun hard moves on the rare occasion he misses a roll.

Edit to add: slaying your god is super metal and sounds like an awesome death’s door move to me.

  2. Mind that you don’t have to restrict yourself to just 1 move; you keep all the moves that really are at the core of your character. That is, from zero to a lot! Anyway, it seems very logical what you did, except I’d factor in stat advancement so that he doesn’t get more than 9 when leveling up, including the ones he already got. In other words: if he changed class at level 6, and restarts at level 1, he increases one stat per level until level 5 and nothing more.
