Hi everyone! I started playing Dungeon World (yesterday!) with some esports personalities- JP “itmeJP” McDaniel, Marcus “DJWheat” Graham, Margaret “Luperza” Krohn, and Sean “Day[9]” Plott – you can see our character generation and storyline setup game here!
We decided on a “deathtrap dungeon” style game, with a focus on crawling through terrifying dungeons- it’s a shift for me, but I love DW and think it will really start to sing.
The other parts will be uploaded daily at youtube.com/itmejp! Hope you’ll check it out if you’re interested in seeing this style of game played out in the Dungeon World ruleset.
That’s awesome! I love those guys, can’t wait to watch this.
Actual play videos are usually really lame and awkward but this was really cool and I genuinely enjoyed it. Great work!
I really enjoyed watching this, and would very much like to steal the “Start of Game” Moves that you had the PCs roll alongside their Bonds. Did you borrow these from someplace else or did you write them up yourself?
I enjoyed your run of Apocalypse World and am enjoying this Dungeon World sessions. I actually ordered the print / PDF bundle after watching the first session. I have also started incorporating some of what I saw in my own non-DW games. Great Job Steven!
Charles King I wrote those! Those will all come back to haunt the players, as they’re how I’m creating the core identity for the eventual Deathtrap Dungeon itself.
I had a few goals for those starting moves. First, to establish that these characters have been adventuring in the past. Second, to allow my players the chance to tell us more about their exploits. And third, to let them make choices that will affect the Deathtrap Dungeon itself. On a 10+, of course, they ended up holding onto some tangible benefit from their history that may come in handy in the future.
In Apocalypse World I gave these guys much more free reign to define the world and everything in it, but with the focus on dungeons this time around I wanted to give them a say while still presenting something specific, and I figured a set of starting moves could give them those options.
So why can I only access the first two videos? Do I have to subscribe or sumfin?
Wynand Louw JP uploads generally 30 minute increments every day of the week. If you subscribe to him on twitch, you can watch the whole vod- but it’s not necessary. Today’s continuation should be up soon, I’d think!
Thanx. I’ll be watching again today.
Yeah! That’s all JP’s doing- he’s in charge of finding players (and GMs!) And running all the production. He used to have community made music playing for intros and battles, until YouTube’s copyright changes caused a lot of annoying false takedowns.
(you can find the fan music here: http://rollplay.bandcamp.com/album/rollplay-d-d it’s all awesome, but user AnonymousChiliStalker’s stuff really shines, imo)
Hey Steven, I just started watching this series on JP’s channel…I had never heard of Dungeon World before, and after reading the rules I think I’m hooked. I bought a copy and I’m going to try it out in the next couple of weeks. Thanks for bringing this system to my attention, it seems really awesome!
