Starting a new, fairly low-fantasy campaign where magic will be almost entirely evil and I wanted some associated magic items. This is the first:
Mull’s Eye dangerous, 0 weight
A detached human eye that may or may not try squirming away on its optic nerve. When connected to an available eye-socket, surgically or otherwise, it will bond to its new owner.
When the owner views the remains of a dead being, they will be granted visions of that being’s final moments, and see precisely how their death came to be.
A previous owner was known to have gone mad, removing the eye themselves with a salad fork.
That is totally awesome, from the concept to its effects. Euch!
You could have them find a procession of enchanted body parts that try to graft on; a powdered liver that grows in when drunk, and gives the owner the ability to detect poison, a cut out tongue that grants speaking to the dead, and a shrivelled hand that closes its grip around a person’s soul and cannot be loosened.
Then, of course, the original owner of all these body parts wakes and starts hunting them down…
As a note, the dangerous tag is meant to represent both the act of, erm, ‘installing’ it, as well as the danger of possible madness resulting from its use.
I like the eye. But salad forks, no matter what their application, have no place in heroic fantasy.
I know a detective that would kill to have an eye like that…
