Spent my Labor Day working on a new class with the Aurors from Harry Potter in mind. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

  1. It’s not all that different from a Wizard, is it? IMO, new classes really need to bring something different to the table, something that isn’t covered by existing classes.

What makes the Auror special? Because he has a few extra mores that gives him +1 against dark wizards? Don’t think of bonuses, think of moves that the class uses. Maybe this would be better as a CC instead.

DW isn’t about who can get the biggest numbers. It’s about being cool.

  2. It seems a lot like a standard Wizard, but with some thematic detail changed and a few new abilities (and of course, different spells)… Auror almost strikes me as a compendium class for Wizardy characters. What made you decide to make it an entire class by itself?

(Somehow this got crossposted with Peter’s post, so I look like I’m just repeating him… Sorry.)

  3. How about a spell or ability to make a Port Key? Also, Aurors and most all magic-folk of the HP realm needed wands to cast their magic. Perhaps that is a starting item? Otherwise, it feels very thematic.

  4. Chris Rogers I really wanted to use the character sheet template and glanced over at my book collection and saw the HP books. That’s really the full extent of it, haha. M Zeller I love the Port Key idea, thanks!

  5. How about a move to help an Auror hunt down a dark wizard? Or to help him deal with dangerous curses, and not necessarily ones just cast by a dark wizard?

Start with a clear picture in your hand of the cool and stylish things your CC does, and build around that.

  6. Perfect example, Peter Johansen. The “spellmind” move was feeling a little forced to me. A Hunt & Track move geared towards dark wizards would make a better replacement. Thanks! I have a blast writing these. I have 10 written already. I enjoyed your Death Knight CC a lot.
