Petition

When you cry out loudly for a god’s favour or intervention, choose a number of the following up to your mana with this god.

– You maintain your relationship with this god.

– You maintain your relationship with other gods.

– You keep your self-respect.

– You need make no great sacrifice.

Reflect your choices in how you describe your petition. The GM will then tell you if this god finds your petition favourable, your cause worthy and your need great enough. If so, you get what you want.

For Petition, player characters might start with 3 Mana to distribute among 2 or 3 gods. Unless they were the Cleric or the Paladin, where they’d could load all the Mana onto one god. And then maybe 1 mana per level or maybe mana as a boon granted for services rendered.

I can also imagine objects that grant mana for use in a petition.

  1. There are many ways. Mine is a hack-reaction to PC relationship rules with Icons from 13th Age., where Icons are like demigods locked in an eternal battle so their power is not all encompassing. Besides, being good mates with a god so you can ask them to help, that’s an extraordinary move right there. And it adds another level of meddling factions and competing agendas, directly driven by player moves.

  2. I’d say, have bonds with your gods instead of mana. And, I’d probably delete the gm ruling out requests. If you ruin your relationship with other gods, make yourself miserable and sacrifice a lot… That’s enough for any god to grant you whatever you want!

(yeah I know, I write like you asked my opinion… That’s what you get for writing cool moves that catch my interest!)

  3. If the GM really wants to delegate making a decision, here’s how I’d remake the move.

    True Petition

When you cry out loudly for a god’s favour or intervention, roll+mana with this god. On a hit, if your cause is worthy, this god finds your petition favourable and grants what you want. If your cause is unworthy, you must choose twice to maintain your relationship with this god, or else. On 10+ choose 3. On 7–9, choose 1.

    – You maintain your relationship with this god.

    – You maintain your relationship with other gods.

    – You keep your self-respect.

    – You need make no great sacrifice.
