Fun GM tricks: casually mentioning to a player during a noncombat scene, “It’s on your head,” and continuing on with your description of the area.

Even more fun: when they miss it, and you repeat yourself five times over the next ten minutes, before finally the player says, “Wait, WHAT is on my head?!”

Who has some good narration tricks to share?

  1. When party is lit only by torchlight, say your x+1 shadows dance around in the wavering torchlight it looks like your light source is a about to go out. X being the number of characters.

When party is outside in moonlight and not in camp. The moonlight twists and warps through the still night air, as it falls on a patch of bushes you see several glowing eyes peer out at you and a high pitched Canine like whine comes out of the bushes. What do you do? …..skunks!

  2. In this particular case, a rather large spider. He was a  first time player, and the other players saw what I was doing but let him notice it on his own.
