Is the newest core rule book just a reprint of the old one or is this a new system all together?

Is the newest core rule book just a reprint of the old one or is this a new system all together? I’ve found a Dungeon World rule book on Amazon but the year is 2002. I see other ones that are I think 2012 and 2013. I’m not familiar with this system but want to get into it and find a game to play in. Which book do I need? New or older one? Or does it even matter which I use?m/

  1. The 2002 book by James Ward is a supplement/setting for d20 gaming. It has nothing to do with the current 2012 Dungeon World RPG.  Buy it from rpgnow and you’ll be happy!

  2. The 2002 book (by Fast Forward Entertainment, I’m guessing?) isn’t an RPG; it’s a not-that-interesting d20 setting. It’s not tied to the Dungeon World RPG at all.

  3. I’m waiting for our printer to give me a new quote  based on shipping to two distributors, but the actual print process should start no later than next week. With print time and delivery time that puts them on sale around the start of August.

  4. Sage LaTorra That’s good to know. With the Red Book, soft and hard back I’ve inadvertently become a completist. I can resist a second printing (though I might be regretting that in 20 years as I’m trawling the DW version of the Acaeum looking for it.)

  5. I am so tempted to feed your obsession, Andrew Coles, by saying that there’s one other change!

(That one change is that I decided “Lead Artist—Emily DeLisle” looked funny and change it to “Lead Artist Emily DeLisle”)

  6. Yep, there’s a nerd factor. If DW becomes a big deal there will be trivia contests at GenCon 2053 with the question “What change, other than add ‘Second Printing,’ was made between the first and second printing of Dungeon World?”

First printing owners will put it in a safe ! I’m a devoted reader of the Acaeum myself.

At GenCon 2053, I will be … hugh … 84… (I’ll be dead instead, having looked behind the Black Gate and rolled 2).

  8. Every game I’ve gone to, I’ve been the only one with an official printing. Somebody used an office printer, but mostly its been pdfs or “What, there’s a book? I thought it was just character sheets?” from some of the players.

I think its really neat that a 400 page book can be summarized, for most players, on a single sheet of paper — with white space.
