A friend of mine is playing the Mage in one of our games, but his character sheet has the version where the alignment of your focus only makes it so that the maximum bonus is +1. I recall there being a version going around where an unaligned spell has the GM pick the consequences, and an aligned spell lets you pick instead. However, I can’t seem to find this version anywhere. That should be “minimum.” The minimum aligned bonus is +1.
As for the consequences, there was no version that had differing consequences whether your spell was aligned or not. There should have been, that’s a really good idea and way better than what is there.
There were previous versions where the GM picked, but they were scrapped primarily because it made the mage even more of a walking time bomb than he is currently.
