I was wandering if there were many rules people have made for Mounts.
I ask mainly because one of my players wants to play a Gnome Ranger from the Grim Portents and asked if he takes the Huge tag for his animal companion, can he ride it.
I’m probably going to say yes but any mount rules people have would be useful.
Here is The Cavalry Knight Compendium Class (Don’t get too excited, it’s only one move): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NjX8nLGrGUUunIrSuYaZ0Ybqszk_i1EZU5FPodIcA1k/edit?usp=sharing
There is also somebody out there who has done a LOT of mounted moves, but I can’t remember who it is.
That is definitely a start, although in this case the person in question wishes to ride a Giant Badger.
You could also get some inspiration from Inverse World:

There’s some mounts on that page 🙂
Okay, so there’s no real official rules knocking around, but those Inverse ones look cool.
Yes, the default DW is surprisingly lacking in horses.
Not even any coconut halves to bang together!
I think it’s because they expected horses not to need mechanics.
Horses maybe not, but players have this niggling imagination that seems to hone in on everything you didn’t yet think of.
Rob Cain Yeah, players can be annoying like that…
So I’ve told the guy that he can have his giant badger mount, but as its his ranger pet it’s just a ride thing and he doesn’t get many bonuses but if the group start getting mounts ill work with him to make his giant badger more keep to be ridden.
I’d allow it!
For those who want mounts, I am getting closer to releasing a third party supplement called “Dungeon World: Mounted Combat”. You can guess what it entails.
I have noticed some of the sneak previews you’ve put around on them. Would it be cheeky to ask if you’ve got a rough ETA.
I am aiming for a release in a week or so, depending on how easily the final layout goes. It’s looking pretty pro!
Woooooo.
I would basically give a mounted character an additional distance tag on his weapons. For example a gnome would probably have hand or close even for big weapons, now I would add near to it as well, with the idea that he can get around a bit better. It would also help out with the fiction for defy danger or chase scenes or whatever. Potentially though on an “attack” it could have a lot more fun with knocking him from his mount, getting bucked, or whatever.
For most of his weapons he’s going with a short bow, so range isn’t too much of an issue for attacking.
Here my advise: search for The Horseman playbook (AW), steal the moves, change the flavour. Done.
What kind of riding rules are you looking for? how the standard ruleset ofvthe game is inadequate? These answers could help big time!
