I finally got to GM Dungeon World!
Yesterday I took on seven players (note to self: that’s way too many, even if you know the rules like the back of your hand — which you don’t) in a completely improvised half first first session.
Today I ran three players (a much more manageable number) through half a second first session.
Verdict: We all liked it, but I have to train my improv muscle.
When time allows, I will write a more detailed log.
Dan Algstrand I’ve found the sweet spot to be 3-4 players and a GM. 7 is an intimidating number of players.
Yeah, I know. I prefer 3 to 5 players, but everyone wanted to try DW, and I didn’t have the heart to turn someone down.
On the plus side, you ARE training your improv muscle.
I would be ok with seven players in a face-to-face game. But most of my gaming these days is via Hangouts, and four to five is the sweet spot there.
I run a 7 or 8 session game every week around a table because that’s whose in the group and shows up. I can do it but a smaller size allows you a different experience. I Also run a hangout game weekly for four. I cannot imagine more then five for that and that would be pushing my envelope. I think partly because I am not used to it but also because the skills set is different.
