I’m going to be running my first dungeon world fairly soon and have a quick question. With Fronts, is that something I keep to myself or publicly for my players to take a quick gander at.

I keep them secret-ish
Chapter 15, Fronts
“Fronts are secret tomes of GM knowledge.”
there could however be moves that make you share parts of them.
Thanks!
A front that never impacts a player’s character isn’t a front.
Okay, so let’s say, I have my Front.
Danger: Wildfire Phoenix.
(Arcane Enemies)
The Corrupt Phoenix is travelling under the ground through tunnels in order to scorch the land above it without being seen. Impluse: To burn off the inhabitants of this land and create a nesting ground.
Grim Portents:
The Phoenix manages to create new tunnels and begins burning the cities.
The Phoenix manages to create offspring, which come out and begin to feast.
The Phoenix draws attention to itself from the very people that corrupted it in the first place.
This would work?
Fronts are GM-facing, sort of the back end interface of the game.
Looks good to me!
Alright awesome, thanks guys. Going into this with a lot more confidence.
Don’t worry if the game doesn’t go smoothly for the first few sessions. It takes a couple of times to “get” the DM role, especially if the DM is familiar with more conventional games.
I wouldn’t say keeping them secret as much as simply thinking off-screen. Let us know how it goes – I love DW!
Keep them secret, keep them safe. Show their effects but never let the pcs know the future (unless they earn it!)
Once a Front has completely resolved and is no longer relevant, I do like to show them to players just so they get an idea of how far off the “rails” they took the game, haha.
Erich Lichnock For sure, it’s cool to show them the fronts after the fact. It reinforces how easy GMing DW is.
