I was playing DW and a player took the Ranger. I’m not quite familiar with him. So here’s the questions:
1. If he uses two weapons do he gets any special moves or does it influence Hack and Slash move?
2. He choosed a Panther as animal companion, I’m quite sure he can use the Panther in combat, but what are the Panther statistics? And which moves is able to perform?
thanks for the answers 🙂
1. There are special moves later that give you extra damage on a hack&slash, Viper’s Strike i think. Fictional he has two weapons and can use them
2. The panther doesn’t really have moves of his oen. Check out your Command move and the trainings he gave the panther to learn what he can do with it.
As a GM remember to really play up the weaknesses he chose. They are not something you should forget about but a great opportunity for hard and soft moves.
AFAIR you can take Viper’s Strike at 2nd lvl to have a mechanical advantage when rolling damage (+1d4). Apart from that, it’s just fiction, but you need not underestimate it, it’s quite powerful.
Let’s say you are fighting two orcs and you want to Hack and Slash. You can describe how using two weapons you can, for example, keep engaged the second opponent, not giving the MC a golden opportunity to do a deal damage move while you dispatch the first. If they are close enough, you can describe how by sweeping both weapons you hit both opponents at the same time. Etc. But it must make sense, and you must work it in the fiction.
About the Panther, I think you need to work its moves with the MC, but I’m not sure.
1. In fiction it influences from the start, in damage rolls after he takes Viper’s Strike.
2. Any statistics and any trainings of player’s choice.
an animal companion hasn’t moves like a monster has per se. It’s an extention of your character through the Command move.
also summoning Daniele Di Rubbo
People here gave you good answers yet. 😉
Another key part of taking two weapons is that they can have different ranges.
The fighter with a long sword is in trouble once a goblin gets in close, within his guard.
The ranger with a sword and dagger is covered either way.
Goblins are usually dead before they get in close 😉
Jokes apart, good point. Our MC is not exploiting this at the moment, fortunately for the barbarian (me, I use a shield :D)
