So… I just noticed something.

So… I just noticed something.

Clerics are explicitly said to not be able to prepare spells higher level than they are. So a second-level cleric couldn’t prepare a third level spell despite having three spells to work with.

Wizards don’t have this note, however! Accidental oversight? Deliberate difference?

  1. No, I don’t think it’s an oversight. Remember, unlike the Cleric, a wizard starts knowing only three level 1 spells, and learns a new one of his level or BELOW every level. Unless the GM made it possible for you to learn a spell higher level than you, then it is impossible by default.

  2. Besides, the wizard could at most learn the spell a level early, since he can only prepare (Wizard lvl+1) total levels of spells. That single spell would take up his entire allotment, except for cantrips. Hardly game breaking 🙂
