Had my first DW session (as a player) a couple days ago. It was amazing! Coming from D&D 3.5e, it felt so much faster, more fluid, and fun. It really felt like we were all telling a story together, since we had only a couple of stat bonuses to keep track of and none of the minutiae of run speed, arcane spell failure, and other such fiddly bits. It really made me reexamine my thoughts on the roles of narration and simulation, too.
We began in an old dwarven mine, in which we had been forced to labor. An earthquake (or so it seems) gave us a chance to escape. On our way out, we parlayed with Goblins and battled Orcs, Kobolds, a talking giant spider, and some hideous franken-spider-men. One of our party has a duel scheduled for the next sundown and we’ve got some investigatin’ to do. Can’t wait.
