Owlbear

My third #Inktober drawing is a #DungeonWorld owlbear.

The owlbear is one of my all time favorite monsters dating all the way back to my first encounters with Dungeons and Dragons in the back of a carpool van being shuttled with some older kids to various activities after school. I remember the party of the boy scouts that played in the back of the van being chased into, and recklessly through, a dungeon by an owlbear with rabies. It left an impression, to say the least. The owlbear is such a weird creature, both mesmerizing in its oddity and terrifying in its power.

I hope you like my attempt at drawing it.

I’m participating in #Inktober this year leading up to the annual 24 hour #ExtraLife game marathon that I have been running in late October with my wife for the last five years. I’m going to draw monsters, weapons, and magic items from the #DungeonWorld rulebook and from the Dungeon World Codex (http://codex.dungeon-world.com).

If you like the drawings and would like to support me in Extra Life this year, you can donate to my campaign at http://www.extra-life.org/participant/jimjones.

You have my sincere appreciation if you do.

All the money that I raise goes directly to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Indiana. My youngest daughter, Rogue, had a life saving cranial reconstruction surgery at Riley when she was just a little over one year old. Today, she is a happy and healthy almost six year old who is thriving in kindergarten.

Let me know what you think.

Today’s sketch is a troll carrying a club and wooden shield.

I didn’t put hair on it’s head, just some on the arms, hands and belly, and made the face more blunted and amphibian as a call back to other species that can regenerate. The arrows and sword in its back are just of of read to be removed.

These seem like they would be at home in many a #DungeonWorld  campaign.

Looking for a good ratmen faction

Looking for a good ratmen faction

I’m looking for some good rat men monsters. Something along the lines of skaven from Warhammer Fantasy, but they can have their own flavor. It would be awesome to have different versions representing rat men society.

Does anyone know of any that have already been created?

I saw the mutant ratmen on the codex, but is is pretty generic for what I’m looking for.

Thanks for any that you know of or any thoughts on the matter.

How would you implement a vulnerable tag in #DungeonWorld such as vulnerable to magic or vulnerable to fire?

How would you implement a vulnerable tag in #DungeonWorld such as vulnerable to magic or vulnerable to fire?

How would you implement a vulnerable tag in #DungeonWorld such as vulnerable to magic or vulnerable to fire?

Two follow up questions:

1) Is the vulnerable tag discussed in the main rules? I did a search and didn’t find it, but I’ve had people show me that I’ve missed stuff in the past.

2) Is thee a comprehensive list of tags both in the world and created by the community somewhere?
