Here’s 2 of the 22 pages I’ve written for the next Planarch booklet, the Cyclopaedia Tatterdemalion. It’s pretty weird!

Hey folks.

Hey folks.

Hey folks. Naked self-promotion here. I’ve launched a new Patreon page which is intended to help fund new Planarch Codex materials along with new games by myself and other indie designers. The new Planarch stuff will be announced here and elsewhere when it’s available, so there’s no reason to necessarily back me on Patreon if you’re just interested in DW stuff. But you do get a slight discount and if you’re interested in the other projects I’m working on, it could be a good way to stay plugged-in, even at just the $1 level.

Hey folks, I’ve finally gotten around to launching my own Patreon, which will support me releasing my own games & supplements (from Restless to new Planarch Codex materials), but more importantly is intended as a platform to continue to publish anthologies like the Indie Mixtape and to support up-and-coming designers in getting their games over the hump and into publication. Like all my past projects, everything supported through Patreon will remain creator-owned and folks who help fund us will receive future releases at a discounted price relative to what they will cost through other outlets. I’ve begun lining up some great releases, which should trickle out every few months (perhaps monthly during the summer), and one of my initial goals is to get the newer designers in the Pacific Northwest to actually publish the great stuff they have been making over the last few years. But other things will be coming too. In any event, thanks in advance for your support and I’m looking forward to seeing what comes out of this!

I’m sure people here are already very familiar with this webcomic, but just in case it has slipped under anyone’s radar: Kill Six Billion Demons is pretty phenomenal, and just about every page is packed to the very brim with weird surreal cosmopolitan demonology, and incredibly weird anthropological entries accompany many of the comic’s pages – detailing the various demons, the nature of the world, and so on. If I could channel even an ounce of K6BD while running Planarch Codex, I think I’d be running the perfect game.

Hopefully everyone who bought one of the limited number of print copies directly from me already received theirs a long time ago. If you are the victim of a past postal disaster, please let me know and I’ll fix it.

Does anybody have a comparison handy between Dungeon World and World of Dungeons for a Planarch Codex game?

I’m looking at starting an extended, online campaign with Dark Heart of the Dreamer as the key source of setting information, but I can’t decide between Dungeon World and World of Dungeons for the system.

I can see where Dungeon World has advantage in terms of more advancement options, more codified moves, more structure; but I can also see where World of Dungeons might be able to get the feeling of Dark Heart of the Dreamer right by means of having the more flexible character building and rule adjudication.

That’s the start of things in my mind, and it’s pretty even. Thoughts?

(I’ve read the guidelines for one-shots and first sessions with the advice to start with World of Dungeons and move to Dungeon World, but I fear that would be more trouble than it’s worth. I could easily be wrong, though; has anyone tried this?)
