Does anyone have a youtube link for a Dungeon World game that has been ongoing?

Does anyone have a youtube link for a Dungeon World game that has been ongoing?   I keep looking for examples of play where the players are not new.   Where the GM has already passed the “I get it” moment.   And I have not found this kind of example.   Most of what I find are people trying out the game for the first time, and I have already done that…. now I want to see a great example of from an experienced GM of:  ✴On a 7–9, you stumble, hesitate, or flinch: the GM will offer you a worse outcome, hard bargain, or ugly choice.

thanks!

The backstory…

The backstory…

The backstory…

I wanted to test out the rules and roll 20.  I found 3 players for a 3 session tester campaign.   I wanted to start in action…. so put an artifact in a ruined keep by the ocean, guarded by a magical hell hound thing.   I also wanted a hoard near by, so wanted a scouting party to point the party this way.  The action would start with their thief coming over the wall, and noticing something.

In the first session, we spent a lot of time creating backstory.  I would ask questions, and sometimes get answers.  Sometimes I felt like I was pulling teeth.    Questions like … why do you want to play a neutral fighter, what story aspects do you hope that will bring out?

And  Who is Lord Jordon, and why do you trust him?

When Lord Jordon was filling you in on your job to find the crystal of Oxy Pablo, your mortal enemy overheard the details.  How did they do that?

Who is this enemy, and why do they want to get the crystal of Oxy Pablo before you?

The fighter whipped out story like it was nothing.  My evil mage seemed to simply agree with what everyone else suggested… and my theif wanted to act in character, and had trouble with any details that did not pertain directly to his character.

They built neighboring dukedoms, that recently finished a war.   They are in the wining city, and have been running plenty of political crimes together.   The thief likes to steal things, plant the goods on an enemy, and then tip off the fighter (who used to be in the army and the police) about who has the stolen goods, and get them arrested.

They are now working with the ambassador to the losing dukedom, very closely.  He has hired them to get a magic crystal, which he will be using to help his duke.

As part of the political war, the party has managed to alienate all elves and dwarves, and caused them mistrust each other.   One of these elves hired the party wizard to find some some ancient scrolls of power.  Once the mage did this, he took his friends to the scrolls, took the ones he wanted.   The fighter burned the scrolls not wanted, and the thief taunted the elf such that he knew how he had been betrayed.

Realizing I was running out of time, I skipped a number of questions, and jumped into the keep, as the party found some gnolls.  They killed the gnolls very quickly.  All three gnolls killed from behind…   The last gnoll creating a large amount of noise as it was shot in the back with arrows.  There was a monstrous thump on the partially ruined wall near the thief.

End of session one.

This is hard to write.

This is hard to write.

This is hard to write.  I am not entirely sure what response I am hoping to get for this, but I feel like I am not quite “getting it” yet, and it makes for some awkward moments in game play.

I am running a “testing” game with myself and three other players, using roll20 and skype for voice (since roll20 voice is not so good)  All of us are new to DW, and roll20.  Three of us have a zillion years of roll playing experience, although my only recent GM experience is for a kids and parents game (which has also transitioned to DW).

First off.  There is a mortal enemy stalking the party ( elf, elemental magic, stealth, hatred).  They are in a ruined keep, in high wind at night, withe the sound of the ocean, and a gigantic magical construct “playing with them” .   They are  watching in the direction the elf is, but I can’t imagine them actually seeing the elf.  my front indicates they would see his shadows moving, which they did… and due to the construct they ignored the warning, other then to watch that way.  Do they have any other chance to see him?  is there a move that applies?  They are watching, he is there, but they are in torch light, he is not.  He is hiding, and of course they failed the discern realities roll as they peered into the night.

The next next part of this front is for the elf to dart past them to attempt to steal the magic item from the tower.  This just seems cheap since they are already engaged with a giant magic construct (currently hiding in the rubble).  And I am having difficulty mixing the two encounters together… even though the story provides for it to be ok.

My 2nd issue is the scouting party of gnolls.  The party killed the last three.  But I don’t know how to give them information about the gnolls.  Both spout Lore and discern realities don’t seem to have answers to the questions the players are asking.  Eventually I used a failed discern realities roll to tell them the information I wanted them to know….  but it felt really forced.  We don’t know what the characters know about gnolls yet… and due to the pressure they are feeling from the magic construct, they are uncomfortable taking the time to investigate.

more later….

But I am wondering if it makes sense to try and be a player for a one shot before I run this….

TYM 🙂

Hello,  I am starting up a Dungeon World campaign using roll20, and it’s my first time with both.

Hello,  I am starting up a Dungeon World campaign using roll20, and it’s my first time with both.

Hello,  I am starting up a Dungeon World campaign using roll20, and it’s my first time with both.    I though it would be good to start a discussion about how this game, and this tool set fit together, since I have been chewing on it for a few weeks now, and still have plenty of questions.

My first impression with roll20 after playing with it for an hour or two, is that it specializes on getting maps and tokens to work well together. Yay! battlemat online!  This is great and all, but my impression of DW, is that it is not about the maps and tokens, but they can be used if we want.

So I am thinking how can I use roll20 to make our DW campaign better then skype and google docs?

1) maps.  once we draw them, we can import them and draw on the maps while playing.  Can players create maps in roll20?  or only the GM?  I love the idea of having players drawing some maps on the fly, which is easy in tabletop games.

2) images.  Images are worth a thousand words.  I have found some great pictures of gnolls which filled me with an Epiphany.  Not only did I want monster pictures, but I wanted the monsters to be in the correct location.   Where can I get good fantasy location images?  In the last thirty years there have been innumerable fantasy images created.  How can I find them and gather them for my game?  Ideally locations without characters… google searches so far have shown a great time sink opportunity here, but I have not found the ruined keep setting I was thinking of.

3) sounds.  So who wants to add a creaking door?  a barking dog?  The splash sound as your signature weapon gets thrown overboard?  I know roll20 allows making playlists, for music, but what about sound effects?   Does anyone have a good way to collect sound effects for Roll20?  does roll20 allow for quick searches of saved sound files?

4) what else?  Moving from face 2 face gaming, into a remote desktop environment must have some great changes I just have not thought of yet.  Anyone want to share their ideas?

Thanks for any comments.
