So, how does one live down EIGHT failed rolls in one night?

So, how does one live down EIGHT failed rolls in one night?

In less than 2 hours I managed to set an inn on fire, get my face scarred by a werewolf, set myself on fire, alert an angry mob, crack my wand, wake a giant zombie from the dead, blow myself up twice (ragdolling into the wall and ceiling respectively), and get knocked over by recoil trying to heal myself at the end of it all.

…I’d be a lot warmer and a lot happier with a belly full of mead.

  1. That’s right, to quote Michael Caine “[on Jaws: The Revenge (1987)] I have never seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific.” Point at your new level and laugh about it. if you got a nickname out of it, that takes time.

  2. By leveling up, of course.

One night, I couldn’t roll above a 4 (on a d20) to save my life. And, at least once or twice, it was indeed a matter of saving my life. We got to the end of the night and I was 1 die roll away from total death. I asked the GM to let me roll next week. Dramatic tension aside, I just didn’t want my crappy luck to kill off my character.

  3. Haha, to say one “lives” through it is being generous. At least I have the Fire Magic and Shield Charm spells now.

I actually delivered the killing blow to the zombie, exploding it and spraying my Shadow Dancer friend with rotting flesh. He ended up borrowing my Wizard Pajamas that were stashed in my Adventuring Gear. 🙂

  4. Nope, in this universe the only safe-dropping occurs when Paladin tells a lie. Then the Divine drops a safe on them. For real though. It nearly happened once.

  5. Thankfully, no safes were dropped unto this day. What alerted the mob would be me running out of a burning inn to douse my burning self in the square’s fountain 😛

  6. Sounds like a table day at the table for myself. “You’re really going to play a spellcaster? Really? After the last one?” As others mentioned, I level REALLY fast in Dungeon World if I survive the outcome of so many die rolls. Regardless, my appearance at being competent usually comes into question very early on in games.

  7. I understand your pain: in a session I leveled up twice (from 2nd to 4th level). Yep, I’m glad that I’m now a level ahead from everyone else, but I’m not sure my ego will recover.

  8. Welcome to my world! My buds will take me on in any game where dice dictate the outcome because of my notoriety for bad rolls. Good example: Once, while playing Inquisitor, I had two rolls to get 96 or less on percentile dice and I failed.

  9. No, I didn’t destroy any priceless monuments (I wish!). Let’s just say that, during a fight, I almost killed myself without any opponents’ intervention.  Anyway:

    Dungeon World, Fuck Yeah!
