So, I’ve printed out heaps of free RPG stuff for attendees of August’s Ettin Con to take home and try. I’d like to include the DW playbooks but I felt that it needed to be wrapped in an introductory primer to compensate for the lack of full rules.

I’m sure many of you would have suggestions as to how to improve it, and I would like to hear them! Please keep in mind that the aim was to have player rules on one side, GM ruled on the other, and plenty of “GO AND GET THE FULL RULES, THEY ARE AFFORDABLE” on both sides.

  1. I would change the 6- to not say “failure” and to just say “something bad happens”; you can still get what you want on a 6-. That in particular has tripped up my players in the past.

  2. Joseph Avolio I’ve never used that interpretation, so I went back to the printed book to check the “basic outcomes” sidebar which is probably omitted from the online SRDs…I’m scared that this will open a can of worms for me when I need certainty in my life.

    ====

    THE BASIC OUTCOMES

    * 10+: You do it with little trouble

    * 7-9: You do it, but with complications or trouble

    *6-: The GM says what happens and you mark XP

    Hrm. I really don’t know how I feel about interpreting every result as trouble, and every result as potential, if not certain, success. I didn’t want to have that debate internally today.

  3. To lean more towards the warning above that panel (10 is the best outcome, 7-9 is STILL a success), I have amended mine to read:

    On a 10+, you succeed.

    On a 7-9, you succeed at a price.

    On a 6-, you get an experience point (XP) and the GM describes what happens.

  4. Matt Horam, did you design your own character sheets for the Con? A picture of your game – I believe – in Ettin Con has surfaced on the Brazilian DW community, and people like those character sheets.
