What do you find the most clear and unambiguous? Option 1 or 2 or 3 ?

1)

When you convey to someone that you will harm them unless they do what you want…

2)

When you manipulate someone with the threat of immediate harm…

3)

When you force someone to say or do something here and now using the threat of immediate harm…

  1. Both 2) and 3) include a successful result in the trigger, when the PC may well fail to manipulate or force them. Better would be:

    2) When you attempt to manipulate someone with the threat of immediate harm…

    3) When you try to force someone to say or do something here and now using the threat of immediate harm…

Another phrasing which I might find to be the most clear:

    4) When you threaten to harm someone unless they do what you want…

  2. Will D to clarify the intent of the move and the post…

The move is not about whether the PC can manipulate the target.

    This ALWAYS happens.

If you use violence as leverage there WILL be consequences.

The move is about how much control the PC retains when faced with the target’s reaction to violence.

Here I’m just worried that the trigger makes a few details clear:

    – the violence could happen here and now

    – the request could be answered here and now

    – the fictional situation is as clear and unambiguous as possible, as to not get mixed up with moves like Seduce/Manipulate or Parley etc

  3. Alessandro Piroddi – given your clarification, (1) is just wrong. (2) is ambiguous, at least to me – I don’t always read “manipulate” as “successfully manipulate”. Only (3) is clear.

In retrospect I guess I should have put the clarification in the original post.

    My bad XD

On the other hand, I think you can change your vote with just one click 😉

(unless it’s something only I can do as author of the poll?)
