I am really enjoying the new Dungeon World actual play podcast, We Hunt the Keepers (http://www.gauntlet-rpg.com/we-hunt-the-keepers), from Jason Cordova and the Gauntlet podcast crew. I like that it takes the story seriously without being joyless. Everyone is obviously having fun, but it isn’t devolving into a nonsensical jokefest.
Are there any other good Dungeon World podcasts out there that take a similar tone? I am interested in podcasts where you can get caught up in the shared story that is taking place.
Dammit I need to get on this. I am so far behind on podcasts because I have been obsessed with books lately. (I read 13 in January.)
I’m a fan of the DW seasons of Friends at the Table. Their adherence to the rules is a little more spotty (lots of incorrect usage of defy danger in early episodes), but they get better over time. They take the game seriously, but there are some great occasional laughs.
The characters and the world they’re playing in are fascinating. There are some incredibly tense moments between characters. I usually dislike paladins as a class but their game has the best example of a well played paladin I’ve ever come across.
They get really experimental with the game in a few sessions (mashing up DW rules with those from the non-rpg Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective) to play out investigative mysteries. They have a couple series that build on the world’s past (one using The Quiet Year and the other using Blades in the Dark) that are awesome too, and important for understanding where the DW game picks back up.
If all that sounds good I’d highly recommend it.
