Question about converting Monster Damages to D6’s.

Question about converting Monster Damages to D6’s. At what point do you think its ok to convert to multiple D6’s? For example a D10 converts to a D6+2, if the monster has an additional +4 that’s a D6+6, with a minimum of 7! Should there be a mechanic that states when the +N gets high enough it is converted into an additional D6 of damage? For example, in Dungeon World, a Dragon does b(2D12)+5 damage, if converted it goes to b(2D6)+8, with a minimum of 10!!! Granted the min was 7, but ouch!

  1. This actually is a nerf to the dragon, the average dmg goes down, the oneshotpotential goes down. The only thing that goes up is the dmgfloor.

But this could be seen as a good thing. Dragons are always dangerous, so try certainly not to get hit. If you get hit it will hurt, so players will want to avoid this. But if they somehow do get hit they get punished less overall. We will look into the option of going from static dmg to a die when the number gets high enough. But this will in every case result in more swing in the dmg. Here are some stats fyi.

    b[2d12]+5

    Min: 6 Max: 17

    Avg: 13.49

    Std Dev: 2.823

    b[2d6]+8

    Min: 9 Max: 14

    Avg: 12.47

    Std Dev: 1.404
