I used Inkarnate to draw a map for The Dark Forest issue of Session Zero, based on the nodes I rolled with my one-roll generator. I built a custom one-roll generator for the issue for rolling up a quick “dungeon”. You can use this in lieu of some of the world building questions, or in addition to them. Here’s a teaser, using the same die results I got when I posted the original picture…
The characters are here to protect a Unicorn. They may encounter a Ranger attempting to find a friend who never returned from the forest. This NPC knows some lore about the Alchemist’s Stone. This part of The Dark Forest is home to the last Giant.
Writing for Issue 3 is nearly complete!
Interesting. Which iteration of PbtA specifically are you using? Sorry, but I’m not familiar with your writing. Which periodical is this? Is your one-roll system available there?
Jacob Ross, Session Zero is a Dungeon World zine that uses inspiration from popular media for world building. Issues 1 and 2 are inspired by The Princess Bride and Skyrim, respectively (see link).

Issue 2 is better both in art and writing, and issue 3 will be better still, although I’ve started a Patreon ( https://www.patreon.com/user?u=5996619) for it and it won’t be on DTRPG for about a month after the Patreon release. Patrons have a $2 and a $4 pledge option, but if you want to wait and get it on DTRPG you can do so for $2.99 when it releases there.
I have some generic one-roll generators that anyone can use (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1x36szqSOIJK6FMr6IQ4unDabG8DedAY3f19lRPqUrK4/edit?usp=sharing) but I customized one for Issue 3 – The Dark Forest. Issue 3 is inspired by The Forbidden Forest and pulls from all of the Harry Potter novels and films.
As a side note, this image looks amazing in color but when I print it in B&W the paths are unnoticeable. I’ll tweak the map a bit (which is super easy in Inkarnate) to ensure it prints well in B&W.
Interesting. Thanks!
