It’s been a while since I’ve put together anything for DW, but I was inspired by a new campaign that’s in the works.

It’s been a while since I’ve put together anything for DW, but I was inspired by a new campaign that’s in the works. I wanted to see played an imp that was once a familiar to a great but evil wizard. Here is “The Familiar” base class. It’s like a mash-up of the Wizard and Druid, with a little more magical flexibility than a Vancian playbook. I also suspect it would only work in slightly silly campaigns.

  1. Very interesting – spending XP to stay alive? I’ve never seen that before.

One concern I’d have is that with a move like Master of My Domain, there is a lot of stress on the GM to remember that the default result of casting a spell is negative, and the positive outcome fully/partially negates that. That’s sort of the opposite of how it normally works, no?

Also, while reading this, all I could think of is Dobby the house Elf from Harry Potter.

  2. I like this. The Animal moves look good for a druid to use. And they could be used in the ranger book instead of original Animal companion moves.

  3. Yochai Gal good point about keeping track of things for the GM. How about changing the move to be “on a 10+, choose 2 things that go right and 1 that goes wrong. On a 7-9, choose 1 thing that goes right and 2 things that go wrong.”

    – You cast the spell when you want to do it.

    – It works more or less the way you remember it.

    – It affects only the intended targets.

That would make it easier for the GM to remember since the player would be telling them what went right and wrong.

Dobby was definitely on my mind when I was working on this!
