Looking at Maezar’s Spellcasting Aid sheet (it’s beautiful) and thinking about FotF spellcasting in general: how do you handle spells like Fly? I don’t see it adding a bonus to any rolls or causing damage. Maybe it’s a tag “+flying”?

  1. Good question. In that case, I would adjudicate the Magic-User’s intent according to the effect descriptors. I would consider flying a major effect (+5 power), with an AoE of self (+0 power), and then let the M-U decide how much to spend on duration. Certainly you can add tags/descriptors as needed if you find it helpful.

Obviously, whether flying is a moderate, major, or spectacular effect is a subjective decision, but that’s part of how spellcasting is intended to work.

  2. I’ve had this idea about a continuum of Fly-like effects: jump is minor, levitate is moderate, flight is major, and… perfect flight? Spectacular. Blah blah. Kinda like building a spell path from the old d&d spell lists.

Thanks for writing this out much better than I could think it, Jason Lutes
