The Ranger chose Savage and Frightening for her animal companion’s weaknesses, envisioning the companion is just as likely to attack her or the rest of the party as it is to protect her or do what she tells it. She’s asking what she should roll to see what the companion does under particularly stressful situations. Custom move, you think?

It could be a custom move. I would just handle it as a GM move though.
– Reveal an unwelcome truth;
– Deal damage;
– Use up their resources;
– Turn their move back on them;
– Separate them;
– Show a downside to their class, race, or equipment;
– Put someone in a spot; and
– Tell them the requirements or consequences and ask
Those all seem like GM moves that could represent the trouble caused by a frightening and savage Ranger companion.
It has savage and frightening digestion issues.
Custom Move. There’s a Freebooters move where you order followers to “Do their thing.” Have the Ranger give the order. On. 10+ the pet does it. On a 7-9, pet does it with a complication. On a 6-, doesn’t do it and…?
I would mostly probably use it if the ranger fails one of their moves. Maybe ask the ranger how does your agressive pet hinder your striking of the goblin here?
I agree with using GM moves. Have the pet scare the would-have-been-helpful NPC on a bad Parley. Make it give chase to a fleeing enemy that you would have let go, only to find more danger. Things like that, which honestly I almost always forget about during play :p
