This little album includes the finished version of Starkenhold, a roadside shrine and something called The Way Home.
As an aside, I present these doodles to my players by way of an NPC Halfling who travels with them. They are part of his sketchbook, his way of keeping a visual memoir of his travels and adventures.
Love this work.
These have such compelling style, makes me jealous. What paper do you use?
Dirk – it’s just plain old printer paper. I Think the effect comes more from the markers and the fact that the iPod i use to take pictures is pretty crappy. Lol! When I sit down and really put some effort into things, however, I use illustration board.
As for my ‘style’, let’s just say I’m a big fan of Bill Watterson – you can probably see it in the trees. One day I might sneak in Suszy Derkins just to see if anyone catches her.
Your style, on the other hand, I find to be dark and intriguing. I find your drawings to be striking and bold . . . And perhaps even a bit creepy and disturbing, but in the good way. Keep up the good work. Thanks for the inspiration.
Cheers!
AJ Ferguson , I was meaning style more as in stylish than stylized, but I definitely see the Bill Watterson there. Also reminds me of E.H. Shepard’s Winnie the Pooh illustrations somehow, which have their own sort of darkness to them.
Also really like the insertion of these drawings into the fiction of your game via the NPC, great idea.
Might I ask what kind of markers you use AJ? I’ve been enjoying following your work
Letraset Patones, the Gary scale line in particular. They can be a bit steep, but insofar, I have found nothing else that matches their blending capabilities.
Awesome. I’ve never actually used markers but just seeing the shading you’re able to do with them strikes my interest.
Starkenhold looks fantastic!!!
Why, thank you!
