Does anybody know if there is a class like the Sorceress from Diablo 2 out there somewhere? Basically a magic user that specializes in using spells of the various elements. Burn this, freeze that.
I’ve been making my own, but I just want to make sure there isn’t anything already out there.
Just giving the Sorceress a list of spells feels too much like the Wizard… but making it an open ended ability to shape various elements seems too strong too.
I know Grim World has a class called the Channeler that is sort of like that but I’m not sure if that’s exactly what you’re looking for.
I actually bought the Grim World supplement just to investigate that class earlier, for that exact reason! But yeah, it’s not quite the same since it forces you to specialize in one element.
You could maybe set up a custom focus for the Mage playbook and try that out. I’ll keep looking through my library though and see if I can’t find a better recommendation.
You want Johnstone Metzger’s Elementalist, which is in this bundle: http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/129989/Johnstones-Dungeon-World-Character-Classes
is that the same as the one he has in Island of Fire Mountain?
Yes it is.
That looks interesting. At first I thought it looked too weak, but you can master a new element with each level.
On the other hand, maybe a custom class with the Druid’s Elemental Mastery move as a starting move would be a good idea.
I am not sure it would be. That move is super powerful but super dangerous. It would be like “atomic bomb – the class”
But don’t you think most of these other classes would make a player feel extremely limited? If you can command only one element, and only issue one command or so, then you have to: a) run into that element, b) have some way of that command being useful, to even do anything. Meanwhile everyone else can just act without those prerequisites.
Step 1 l: pick Air/Earth
Every elementalist worth their salt/smoke/steam carries a pouch of dirt, a tinderbox, and a waterskin.
