One DnD player, One CPRG player, One non-gamer, One part time gamer and a thirteen year old.
best Dungeon World Intro session ever.
folks had chosen playbooks already – we have a Fighter, Druid, Bard, Mage and Witch.
a brief explanation of what the stats represent, and how to choose the options – not difficult, given the layout of each playbook – a round of introductions and then choosing bonds.
this i think was one of the best bits.
this then led to my scene setting – waking up in a dungeon cell – and my questions to determine the nature of the campagin front –
Why were you at the Symposium Arcanum? who if anyone sponsored your trip?
where was it held?
who attacked your caravan?
and why were you spared death?
queue squabbling over how to break out of the cell, Hobgoblins in strange armour, “Form of the Rat!”, dropped explosive potions (never a good thing), plenty of Ice, and a beheaded demon-snake-woman.
amazing.

AP recording
What an absolute pleasure…
The dnd player got right into it. Enjoyed the speed of character creation and the bonds.
The crpg player liked the fact that the system allowed her character to be more than a set of numbers.
The non gamer hesitated a little, but got stuck in exploring her bonds
And the other two have played DW before
I’m a big fan of Dungeon World for new players.
I love this recording because it’s the first time I have heard a baby GM with an adult interpreting.
🙂
I started reading your post and figured the first line would end with “…Walk into a bar.”
Chris Shorb Dungeon World espouses Oldbury’s third law of party interaction, start the players In media res, makes for a more memorable game, and makes sure folks are involved from the get-go
Well of course 🙂
It’s just when you have a list of different types of persons, in American idiom, one expects it to end in a joke:
A Rabbi, a priest, and a cab driver walk into a bar…
A Lawyer, a doctor, and a businessman walk into a bar…
A dog, a cat, and a rabbit walk into a bar…
An OSR player, storygamer, Pathfinder player, and jeepform larper walk into a bar…
Etc.
Its not just an American idiom!
