Hey guys, I’m looking for a class that would be essentially a non-divine paladin or a knight.

Hey guys, I’m looking for a class that would be essentially a non-divine paladin or a knight. Anyone done that before?

One of my players wants to play Barristan Selmy from Game of Thrones (I actually haven’t read the books/seen the series).

here you can find a link to a list of classes, and amongst them the True Knight, which is pretty much what you’re looking for, imho. Keep in mind that’s not a basic class, though, and if you and your friends are playing for the first time, it might be better to just choose the fighter, which probably has been playtested far more than any of these other classes…

  2. The Fighter sucks for a lot of characters in literature and beyond. You’re not supposed to start with a magical sword, heroes are supposed to get it later! If at all…

That link to the True Knight doesn’t appear to work, but this one might.

I’m also a big fan of compendium classes lately, or even just making up a fitting move for a player. Once you know the rules, break the rules.

  3. Matthew Everhart  Templar is another good option, I would have said that, but I’m not sure how much the player actually wants to be that Song of Ice and Fire character or not. I shrug.

  4. rpg.drivethroughstuff has The Gallant.  I haven’t seen him in play, but it’s written as a Good, Rightous warrior although not (necessarily) a Holy one.

I wouldn’t put one with a Paladin though – there is a fair bit of overlap mechanically.  A version of Lay-On-Hands, and the ability to take Cleric spells later in the game, for example.
