Here is a set of adventure fronts for high adventure while shipwrecked at sea. Something I was playing with awhile back and I’m glad to let it see the light of day.

It looks good Joe Stroup, but I would stick to the Impending Doom list from the rules, as it leads to much tighter and pressure filled Grim Portents, especially when you adhere to the formula of 1-3 Grim Portents for each Adventure Front Danger, and 3-5 Grim Portents for each Campaign Front Danger.
Your Cast and Things are very cool.
I don’t Know Joachim Erdtman I reckon there are no hard and fast rules regarding Impending dooms / portents. Though the books suggestions are a good starting place for sure. As long as they are focused and narratively tied to the situation, its all good.
Really, an impending doom is just a very bad thing that is going to happen if the players to nothing and the grim portents are a series of events leading up to that very bad thing (often triggered on a golden opportunity). I prep my grim portents by writing them on index cards stacked on the table for all to see, with the Impending doom on the bottom card in bold letters. As each new Portent is revealed, I remove the old one and allow the players a moment to revel in that sinking feeling as they realise the new badness on the horizon.
If there is more than one front in play… Well then they are torn in two or three directions and it makes for extremely tense roleplay as they try and figure what to do next. Really, this, plus a few antagonists / locations / maccuffins is all the prep I need. The story writes itself.
Joe Stroup has given a great selection of ideas to use. Its a little ‘pick ‘n choose’, but that’s O.K.
The antagonists instincts, descriptions (via their moves) and ways to hook into the players flags are gold!
I especially like the Pirate crew and the captain Ruby, she’s badarse.
Nathan Roberts, the rules state to pick one of the Impending Doom types from the list, but to give it a concrete form in your front. The examples in both the rules and Guide both use Impending Dooms directly from said list. I’ve taken this literally, and it seems to create amazingly threatening Dangers, and horrific Fronts. I recommend giving it a go.
More importantly, does this mean Grim Portents zine issue 2 is never being published?
That I can’t speak to, but it has been over a year so I just wanted to pop it out. You can blame Sorcerer Blob for reminding me. 🙂
