I’ve got a new game of Dungeon World kicking off next week. I’m pretty excited for it — it’s going to be like Round 2 for me, and I’ll get to draw on experience from last game to not make the same missteps. I think I’ll do better this time; I think I’ll take a breath and loosen up on the reins that I accidentally seized on last time.
It will be a fun challenge though — I’ve got four definite players, but probably five, and that might be six! That’s twice the size of my last party, so I’m steeling myself to keep play focused. Course, that’s the same size as Apocalypse World games I’ve run, so I’m not too worried about juggling screen time.
I’m doing some simple prep for the first session. A monster idea or two, a couple sensations and names, some vague motivations I might attach to an NPC or two if need be. I actually skimmed through The Mountain Witch the other day and I think there is an excellent adventure starter in the very end of it. I’ll probably be using that, and then get my players to fill in all the background on it.
So, long story short: game of DW kicking off next week! Exciting! I’m very pleased about this!
Good luck! I’ve only run DW twice but it was a huge hit both times. I really look forward to another round – I just have to get my players past the ‘it makes a great pickup game’ stage and on to ‘it would make a great campaign.’
