I’m showing off again. Sorry. After making the Hunter’s Kits for Monster of the Week, I was compelled to do something similar for Dungeon World. Metal cases didn’t say “fantasy” though.
So I made leather pouches for the play aid cards. (At least I think it’s leather. It might be suede, as it’s pretty soft material.) Hand cut and hand stitched, with the Basic Moves and most frequently used Special moves compressed down to 20 business cards. All that’s left to do is thread a wrapping cord through those gromets so the pouch will stay closed.
Beautiful!
Wow. That’s slick!
Look at you, fancy-pants.
Looks great, Chris!
You should start selling these dude.
What do you use for the stitching? I know you said by hand, but is this with a machine or literally, by hand?
Wow. Love these! I have still been unable to get my group to try DW…someday, though.
The difference between leather and suede is the surface treatment; leather is smooth, suede is more velvety – made from split leather. Your case is really nice!
Well Gina Ricker, if you’re a player in one of my two Dungeon World games at #Gateway2013 (each game has 4 slots) you’ll be walking away with one of these as swag. 🙂
This was literally stitched by hand, Damian Jankowski. As in I cut a 35cm length of cord, strung a needle onto each end, and then jabbed them through the material (and into my fingers) in a back and forth motion. 😉
Part of the reason I am unable to tell if this is suede or really soft leather is the language barrier. I’m in Japan and my Japanese skills are (embarrassingly) virtually nonexistant. I found all the materials in the “Leather Crafts” section of the local Tokyu Hands store, which leads me to believe it’s leather, but it could actually be a synthetic material too, I suppose. The stuff I use for stitching is a stiff, waxy thread that you burn the ends of when you’re finished stitching. It melts rather than burns and leaves a small pool of wax which (hopefully) locks everything in place.
I am considering making more of these (and my Monster of the Week “Hunter’s Kits”) and making them available for sale, Isa Wills. Maybe through Etsy or something. I haven’t calculated how much it costs me for the materials needed to produce a set yet however. I’d also want to check with Adam Koebel and Sage LaTorra to make sure that selling these sets doesn’t break the CC license.
So long as you credit us as per the CCBY, go for it!
Well that was fast. Thanks for the reply, Adam. I’m currently focused on making my eight “give away” sets for #Gateway2013, sot it’ll be a bit before I consider making more.
Christopher Stone-Bush you should be able to ask for ‘hongawa’ 本革 for real leather. I’d definitely be up for buying one if you decide to sell them.
