Nice write up. I had the same problem with one of the starters when I first GM’ed. It became very “square” as one of my players put it.
The “crossing the line” link you gave is also quite enlightening. I never thought of what was written there, but it contains a lot of wisdom. 🙂
It’s funny though, because I’ve always seen player empowerment as a purely positive thing. I would never have considered that some players wouldn’t like it.
Mind you, I have tried playing under some pretty damn oppressive GMs, so that might color my outlook.
Yes, Kasper, I was surprised that my players preferred the classic GM/Player roles over the creative freedom of the more “modern games”.
