Some random thought courtesy of a short chat with Stras Acimovic regarding the racial move for the Barbarian.
“Outsider” can mean elf, human, dwarf, halfling, lizardman, mastodon, thri-kreen, etc etc from somewhere-not-here but it can ALSO mean TIME TRAVELLER or something weirder, still. Dead man brought back to life? Embodied elemental accidentally trapped on our plane.
Get crazy with it.
I used to be this thing called a “GM” but then I woke up in this world…
“I am from 2013, am now trapped in the past and I AM VERY ANGRY ABOUT THIS!”
“I am Craig the All-Mighty, Duke of Man-Hattan, come to your world to CONQUER.”
Oh shit…I just realized.
By this line of thinking, “Army of Darkness” Ash is a DW Barbarian.
YES.
Appetites:
– Vengeance for Past Wrongs
– Earthly Pleasures (some sugar, baby)
Chuck Heston is totally called a barbarian by some talking apes. JUST SAYING.
Awesome, just awesome, I’m so pitching the Barbarian to my group as potentially being from the future.
Stras Acimovic gets credit for realizing that Captain America is a Barbarian with some Paladin moves.
It has to do with my Con Season adventure.
Playboy Wizard with enchanted armor fueled by a Demon in a Bottle, a cleric of a thunder god having undergone apotheosis, a ranger with a hawk companion, a barbarian leader from the past with FULL PLAET AND PAHKING SHIELD returned to lead this legendary troupe (and a few other surprise chars) might be teaming up to foil the plans of a Horned Trickster god who is bringing ancient evils from Beyond.
It’s my DW Summer Blockbuster Front and some Pregens (in case people want them) for pickup games at Cons. >_>
Avon Starks and his avatar J’har’vyx
This is awesome.
Iacopo Benigni, next time I play a barbarian, prepare yourself for some crazy weird shit.
The flexibility of the Barbarian racial move is possible because your advantage in being an outsider is that you learn fast – everything is new and weird.
Just one thing: as the move’s spelled out at the moment (“You may be elf, dwarf, halfling, or human, but you and your people are not from around here.”), I thought the races proposed were prescriptive, so that I had to be an elf, a dwarf, a halfling, or a human.
Maybe even just an “or something else” could do the trick.
We definitely rephrased it for v2.
I’d love to see a party with a Paladin, a Cleric and a Fallen Angel Barbarian.
“Tell us of heaven…”
Nice, suddenly the Barbarian is John Carter, Travis Morgan, etc.
John Carter is a perfect example. Charismatic, kind of a brute, definitely an outsider with appetites.
Oh my goodness space man barbarian. I am on board with this.
Nah, I like Khamisi as he is. My next barbarian, though, will probably be a bit weirder!
