My #ExtraLife board game marathon is over (http://www.extra-life.org/participant/jimjones), so I am re-reading Dungeon World and taking notes in preparation of my first game with my cousins and a few friends in the next month or so. I’m hoping to have some sort of GM screen / quick notes that I can refer to instead of the book during my planning and sessions.
If one already exists or someone wouldn’t mind sharing their own, please point me to it.

This one took a lot longer than I thought, but I thought it would be fun to do Dungeon World’s take on the shambling mound, or the Swamp Shambler.
I have a very vivid memory of a shambling mound rising up under our party of adventurers when I was playing Dungeons and Dragons as a kid. The idea of the swamp becoming embodied and turning against us was terrifying. Nothing we tried worked against it. It was too soggy to burn and our weapons kept getting tangled up in its endless supply of vines.

Today’s drawing is of a cleric encountering a Burning Wheel in Dungeon World. I thought trying to depict a powerful and terrible religious experience would be an interesting problem. I had a lot of fun with this one.

This past weekend Adrienne and I ran our 24 hour Extra Life board game marathon that benefits Riley Hospital for Children. We had over one hundred unique visitors with over two hundred visits over the weekend. We had a ton of free food, including multiple smoked barbecue pork butts, three egg breakfast casseroles, homemade lasagna, deli sandwiches, burgers and hot dogs and four different kinds of chili. We ended up running multiple board game tournaments and a couple of sessions of Two Rooms and a Boom. Finally, we gave away over eighty Play-to-Win board games and had over one hundred and fifty silent auction items.
All the money that I raise goes directly to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Indiana. My youngest daughter, Rogue, had a life saving cranial reconstruction surgery at Riley when she was just a little over one year old. Today, she is a happy and healthy almost six year old who is thriving in kindergarten.

My eleventh #Inktober drawing is a classic #DungeonWorld monster, the cloaker.
I’m just seven days away from the beginning of the 24 hour Extra Life board game marathon that I choose with my wife. This is my 11th drawing for #Inktober. I am pretty far from my fundraising goal for this year. If you have liked my drawings so far, please consider sparing a couple of bucks towards Riley Hospital by sponsoring me this year. Thursday’s drawing is a a classic, the cloaker. It looks like a cloak even when it wraps itself around you and eats you. It seems like almost anything could be a monster back during D&D’s origins. I wanted to make the cloaker more intimidating and I am happy with the results. I see the cloak as a limited dimensional gateway on its inside, allowing a creature full of teeth to manipulate it and attack it’s prey from within it’s confines. Maybe the first cloaker was a bag of holding that someone tried to make into a cloak, thinking they’d be clever, and instead got more than they bargained for.

The cruel cruel will-o-wisp that preys on the human fear of getting lost in the dark woods. It offers the hope of a wandering stranger’s lantern, just out of earshot, only to play that hope in order to make those that are lost seal their fate. That’s dark.

My eighth #Inktober drawing is a #DungeonWorld magic item, the Satar Duck.
Another magic item. I’m still behind.
I like the idea of this goofy, unassuming magic item. Fro! The description in the rulebook, he Sartar Duck is an odd, hand carved, wooden duck that makes the bearer an exceptionally gifted storyteller. Language itself is not even a barrier as those that hear the tail will get the general idea.
This one just seemed fun to draw.

My seventh #Inktober drawing is a #DungeonWorld magic item, the Flask of Breath..
I am still catching up, so I’ll probably do a couple of magic items.
This one is the Flask of Breath. It holds an I exhaustible source of air. I envision it as a simple flask that is wrapped in a dull grey shark skin unto which a simple brass plate, with a number of different size holes drilled through it, is affixed.

My sixth #Inktober drawing is a #DungeonWorld gnoll alpha.
This is actually yesterday’s drawing. I was only able to finish it today after prepping for our Extra Life event in two weeks. I’m behind. I’m hoping to catch up through this week.
Gnolls are one of my favorite monsters. Often an adventure ends when the dungeon or castle is looted. You better hope the owner of that dungeon didn’t have a pack of gnolls on the payroll. Their trackers will find you and you won’t be ready their biggest warriors.

My fifth #Inktober drawing is a #DungeonWorld immovable rod.
I missed posting on Friday. I volunteered at two different functions and was on my feet for twelve hours. Needless to say there wasn’t much time to draw.
So, I tackled my first magic item, the immovable rod. I just love the idea of a simple rod with a button at one end that will stay where it is in space once the button is pressed and nothing move it. It struck me that a fun way to stumble across the rod would be coming across a well or vertical entrance to an underground complex with the rope of the party that last descended tied to the rod floating in place. Should you take the rod? What about the party down below? Why didn’t the return? Why would they use the rob versus anchoring against the well? Should your party go down and fund out?
