Hello Dungeoneers !

So, another question, but first some context.

The party is fighting against a Ice-breathing Bear. The bear is unleashing its Ice Breath against the Fighter. When I ask the player what does his character do, he answers that he just grits his teeth, enduring as he can, then asked me if he had to roll.

I wasn’t really ok with him triggering the Defy Danger move, arguing that the fictional positioning wasn’t right. If he had a shield, I would have agree, but he was just handing me a golden opportunity, right there. Thankfully, we quickly moved on to have a blast, but I realized this player and I were on different levels regarding triggering moves (but were sufficiently good mannered not to make a big deal out of it in the middle of the game).

Watch’all think?

In the movesheet, the Judge is sometimes referred to as the GM.

Also, Freebooters is so awesome. Had my first game as a Judge, I nearly TPK by accident with… 3 goblins . Beware, fellow Judges, this game is way more lethal than DW.

It was to be a One Shot, but my players and I are already plotting to do a multi-GM opentable campaign.

Hi everyone.

Hi everyone.

Hi everyone. Quick question rule (I thought I was done with this now. It appears I’m not). So, last session a newbie joined my weekly session of DW. During the game, he raised his shield to protect himself from incoming arrows. He triggered the defend action. He rolled 10+ and said : “Ok, so I take reduce the damages by half twice, so I take no damage

me : No, you can’t take an option twice.

player : Really ? … Why not ?”

Then my regular players and I were : “Yeah, why not ?”

So, instead of ruling on it, we went for a defy Danger action and I let him avoid the danger completely. We actually all thought that you cannot take the same option twice without bring it out, but are we right ?

Of course, I’ll kill that newbie next game so he’ll learn his lesson 😉

Hi everybody

Hi everybody

Hi everybody,

So, I’ve run a couple of games now, but there is something I always have left aside since I (nor my players) don’t know what to make of it : distances… I understand how to use Short and Far. But how do you use the difference between hand, close and Reach in your games ? I understand the actual distinction, but how to use it in play… I have no clue.
