Thought I’d share a few items I made for my campaign. They’re tied to the character identities thematically, and are intentionally pretty powerful for that reason.

CAPTAIN’S HAT

A small blue stone is set onto the front of this hat. On closer inspection, there is a bright blue liquid trapped within the gem, sloshing back and forth angrily.

When you are on a body of water and compel the imprisoned Water Elemental in the gem on this hat to serve you, roll+CHA. 10+Hold 3, 7-9 Hold 1. You can spend hold to…

Speed up the waters around you, allowing you, allies, or a ship, to move more quickly to its destination.

Create a whirlpool in a nearby body of water.

Create a large watery tentacle under your control out of a nearby body of water (reach, forceful)

Sense the location of a creature you know that is in contact with this body of water

Breathe, see, and swim perfectly underwater

IVLYSAR’S CURSED COMPASS

Ivlysar Tal’enquin’s life was ultimately one of loss, failure, and pain. This compass is all that was known to survive him. Worn like a necklace, the glass on this compass is cracked, and it seems broken beyond repair. When worn by someone who knew Ivlysar in life, however, it begins to spin rapidly, pointing him to others who are in pain – and allowing them to share their own.

When you discern realities, you can also ask “who here is in pain?” The GM will tell you the nature of this pain.

When you willingly accept a blow from an enemy, roll+CON. On a 7-9, deal your class damage to them. On a 10+ they are also momentarily afflicted with terror, pain, or sorrow.

SHADOWED BLOOD

The tattoos that cover your body all go black, and your organic eye clouds with a shadowy substance, turning it dark as well. Something has changed within you, at your most fundamental level. Your veins no longer carry blood throughout your body, but instead pulse with shadow.

In darkness, you can see in shades of grey, including magical darkness.

When your blood is spilled, either by an enemy or yourself (1d6 self-inflicted damage), you may roll +CON to will it to coalesce into shadowstuff. On a 10+ hold 3 SHADOW, 7-9 hold 1 SHADOW. You may spend SHADOW 1 for 1 to:

Create a cloud of darkness centered on the place you touch, with a radius of near

Slip through a space only large enough for a shadow

Cast a shadow, no larger than an ogre, on a near surface

Remain unnoticeable as long as you keep still in shadows

Manipulate something small (doorknob, chest, key ring, etc.) at near range with the shadows of your fingers

Here is the line: “once per level, on a critical hit, it can make an attack against anything—a shadow, a spell, an emotional bond, someone’s fate, someone’s death. The thing you target has to be within sword’s reach.”

Which I think is awesome, but I don’t know how to translate the once per level on a critical hit part.

One alternate is: when you hack and slash, on a 13+ hold 1. You can spend the hold to target anything [edit: the next time] you hack and slash. But I’m not sure if that’s correct. Thoughts?

My players really enjoy anime Shokugeki No Soma (foodwars) and even make competitions in food war before sessions.

My players really enjoy anime Shokugeki No Soma (foodwars) and even make competitions in food war before sessions. Last time I decided to create an award for a winner connected to it so here it is. Few notes – they prefer items with clarified effects so here they are quite exact. But interesting fact appeared: thanks to “collecting ingredients” they began interact much more with the world.

Feel free to use it or give some another ideas.

Senzaemon´s Small Healing Pot (1W, applied)

Small breakable ceramic pot decorated by some strange signs: 薙切 仙左衛門 (one of the anime characters).

When you have a time to collect ingredients (harvest, hunt, buy, etc.) to prepare a fine meal (your choice) and find enough time

to prepare it for 2 characters (your choice), roll 2d6+INT.

10+ choose 2

7-9 choose 1 (GM chooses a cost or complication)

6- choose 2 and reverse (or GM decides, depands on fiction)

– The consumer´s body enjoys the healing power of ingredients. Heal 1d8 HP.

– The food strenghten your body. Add +1 modifier to STR rolls. Effect lasts 1 day.

– The food is full of energy and you feel you can crush anything in your way. Add 1d4 to your damage rolls. Effect lasts 1 day. (here I was thinking about best of 2 dmg dies but players like to roll various dies)

Su-Su the Baby Phoenix

Su-Su is about the size of a hummingbird, seemingly a phoenix chick composed of intense flame. You thought that phoenixes sprung up from the ashes of their past selves fully formed? So did everyone else, so who knows what Su-Su really is, other than very cute and very hot.

Su-Su is in a cage made of tough but lightweight metal of strange manufacture that lets a lot of light through. The top of the cage hangs from a short piece of chain and is attached to a short, stout pole, so that the holder does not have to have his hand directly over the cage (which gets quite hot). On one side there is a lens shaped piece of glass that focuses the light from his flame.

When you hold up Su-Su’s cage as a lantern it acts as a high-quality lantern that needs no oil.

When you sing and/or coo at Su-Su, letting him know how much you appreciate him, if Su-Su is well fed, he will glow fiercely with pride and joy and begin to sing. The light and heat intensify greatly for a time, and his song is very pleasing. All that can hear his song take +1 ongoing while he sings to prevent depression and despair.

When make camp, Su-Su needs to be fed. Su-Su eats B[2d10] coins worth of precious metals and gems every rest.

When you do not feed Su-Su…who knows what will happen? Likely nothing good.

2 weight.

I need ideas for power for a magical sword the group just got.

I need ideas for power for a magical sword the group just got. It has a significance for the story, being an “anchor” for the boundaries between the physical and spiritual world, but will also be used by our Paladin in combat.

So far the only thing they know about it is that special property and the fact that it’s lighter than a normal sword (1 weight instead of 2). I don’t want its power to be damage related since the paladin already does a lot of damage from all of their moves.

One idea I had is giving it a sort of “dancing blade” power to act by itself.

Thoughts?

Out of curiosity, anyone got any ideas how to make the Sword of Truth wielded by Richard Rahl in the series so named…

*Blood Drop Gems*

*Blood Drop Gems*

These scarlet gems are shaped as water drops and infused with the concentrated blood of many beings.

Each gem contains d6 HPs and vary in size from a dime to a grapefruit depending on how many HP they contain.

*When you are reduced to 0 HPs* any Blood Drop Gems on your person will crumble to powder and grant you that many HP.

*When your life is preserved by a Blood Drop Gem* you must permanently change something about your character to reflect the creature who’s blood has become part of you. It might be a bond, flag, a look, or some other quirk.
