Is this too much for a custom move? I figure it would make a great advanced move for magic users who have gone to the dark side. #DungeonWorldCC

Blood magic

When you cast a spell and spill some blood, you can roll any number of 1d4 and take that much damage. Each roll allows you to choose one of the following:

-Increase damage by 1d4

-Piercing +3

-Choose an additional target within range

-Double it’s duration (doesn’t work for instantaneous spells)

-Double it’s range

Supply Pouch

You carry with you a pouch of herbs and regents used in your craft. Each pouch holds up to 4 Stock and has 1 weight. When you spend time gathering supplies refill your Stock to max.

Whip Something Up

When you attempt to quickly make a drug using your supplies Roll+Stock. 10+ Choose 1, 7-9 Choose 2

-The effects are mild

-It requires an additional Stock

-Unwanted side effects (GM describes how)

-It took longer than anticipated, it’s put you in a tough spot

Concoction

You can make anything given enough time, supplies and knowledge. Describe what it is you wish to make and the GM will pick 1 to 4 choices:

-It’s going to take time

-A special ingredient is required

-This is experimental and requires Literature/Professional to assist you.

-Its effects are mild

-It’s highly dangerous to make. Defy Danger+WIS

-Requires some stock (GM tells you how much)

Alluring Light

While basking in the colorful light emitted by this tall monolith, your ability to cast spells is increased.

When you cast a spell while in the light take +1 forward to the roll. Mark off a box (each person has their own set of boxes to mark) ◻◻◻◻◻

Each time you mark a box after using the Alluring Lights power, you begin to become fixated on it. You find yourself desiring it’s beauty. The more you use its power, the stronger this urge.

When you mark all the boxes, you must stay in the light of the monolith otherwise you become Weakened and Stunned.

Version 1.2

The light emitted from this monolith is so alluring and addictive, that those who spend too much time around and use its energy become trapped at this place by their addiction. Cults of many differing cultures are found living around this monolith, worshipping it and frequently basking in its light. If you try to talk with any of the folk who live in this area, the subject will always turn back to the monolith.

When you bask in the light of the monolith and cast a spell or ritual, you gain a +1 forward to that roll for each Grim Portent marked. If you fail the roll, mark a grim portent.

Place of power: Alluring Light

Doom: Complete Addiction

Grim Portents:

◻ You have become addicted to the light.

◻ You feel a strong desire to return to the light frequently. Even during time sensitive quests. Defy Danger +WIS each morning.

◻ When you sleep, Defy Danger+WIS. 10+, you dream of the tower but it’s cool.  7-9, you sleep fitfully and wake often, dreaming of the light. Take -1 forward.  On a miss, you get no rest as the light burns behind your eyes; take -1 forward and regain no hit points.  

◻ You are Weakened if you spend more than a day without basking in the Light

◻ You have become dependent on the light so much that you can’t travel far from the monolith. You reside amongst the cultists.

Replicator Drone

Tiny, Organized, Intelligent, Horde, Amorphous, Mechanical Construct

HP: 6

Armor:  3

Damage:  1d6-2, +3 Piercing, Messy

Instinct:

– Protect the replicator queen

– Consume energy and metal for queen

– Alter form to perform tasks

Small, Organized, Intelligent, Horde, Amorphous, Mechanical Construct

HP: 6

Armor: 3

Damage: NONE

Instinct:

-Consume metal and energy

-Create more Replicators

-Alter form to perform tasks

Mechanical constructs composed of smaller intelligent pieces that communicate with one another to create forms in order to complete tasks that lead to replication.

The first of its kind was bestowed life by its creator for purposes unknown, but what is known is that it started creating more of itself by replication. Through replication, it has gained knowledge and power in aiding it’s kind for further replication. Every Drone is capable of becoming and taking the role of ‘queen’, a title given to the Replicator who’s sole purpose is to creator more replicators.

Be wary of these small and very resilient creatures, they will consume any metal and energy to complete their task of replication and destroy all those who get in their way.

I can’t find anywhere in my searches for a Pokemon trainer class. So the following is a very raw idea. Thoughts appreciated.

The Poke… or uhh Monster Master is based on the Grimm World’s Shaman and Necromancer as well as the Dungeon World’s Ranger.

The idea behind the Monster Master is to capture and command beasts of the world.

My hope for this class is to be usable alongside the other classes as well as in its own setting.

These are the starting moves thus far:

Catch Them All

You have 6 Holding Cubes in which to store beasts and monsters of the world. Each cube is the size of a human hand and nearly weightless. Only one monster may reside inside a single cube.

Got’cha

When you witness a creature lose consciousness, touch an empty Holding Cube to the monster. Roll+CHA

10+: The monster is captured and safely held within the cube to be commanded later. The GM will give you a list of moves the monster may use.

7-9:  Success, but the GM will tell you something unwanted about this monster such as:

-The monster is unpredictable

-It’s lost to much of its strength and isn’t the monster it use to be.

-You must Praise the monster before you can command it.

I Choose You

Hold out a Holding Cube and call forth the captured monster to your side. Hold 3, you may use your holds to Command the monster.

Command

You act through the monster you have captured by commanding it through means of voice, hand waving, or any other manner of communication the two of you may be capable of.  Roll+CHA

10+:  Your command is understood and the monster will perform a move from its move list, your choice.

7-9:  The monster will perform a move from its list, your choice, but also choose one from the list below:

– -1 hold.  If this is your last hold, the monster will complete the move to the best of its abilities, then have no other desire except to return to its Holding Cube. You must Praise it before you may call upon it again.

–  You draw unwanted attention.

–  Your monsters don’t like how you command, -1 Ongoing to your commands towards your monsters until you Praise them.

Praise

When you have time to rest (about an hour or more), you may praise your monsters and remove all ill effects you and they have towards each other. You also regain the use of your moves where they are involved.

Why can’t Dungeon World be scripted like other table-top RPG systems? It can, can’t it?

I see many posts that shun too much preparation and even the slightest ‘Railroading’. Many games allow this and are even expected, D&D for example. What’s wrong with doing this in Dungeon World too?

I feel like as long as the group you play with likes scripted dungeon crawls and are up for a change in game mechanics (DW’s in this case) it could be done.

An I missing something, or is scripted scenarios near impossible to play when using Dungeon World mechanics.?
