So two of my players in my PbP game are stuck in a burning building. An alchemical substance known as Hellfire was used in the blaze, and now they’re trying to escape through the floor into an old underground creek to avoid their fiery doom, but some of the Hellfire was knocked into the creek below earlier in the scene, so they want to take care not to allow any burning bits to fall below (Hellfire will burn, even in water).

The Wizard has asked to do a ritual, and I’m drawing up blanks on how to work this out. I think it’s an awesome idea, and think a place of power is easily met in this case as:

a. The building is a sort of homeless shelter ran by the Priests of a Goddess of the weak.

b. The loss of life to the blaze itself – some have died inside.

c. Perhaps even the Hellfire plays a part in this.

But I’m having trouble coming up with a good set of conditions for this. So, any suggestions? Do you have your players make a move when they cast their rituals usually?

Also, sorry to my players who will likely see this 🙂

Ok, another question(s) on how you guys handle things.

The players are in a room, and being jumped by monsters. One of the characters, the Wizard, isn’t much for combat – so he decides to look for secret doors.

1. How do you handle this? He’s described moving around the room, avoiding the monsters and studying the walls, etc.

2. Whatever method you chose, if he rolls well, do you have a secret door actually exist in the room?

Are Druids limited to natural creature forms? One of my characters is a druid (he just joined in the second session of my game) and he wasn’t sure about this, and asked to turn into a Coatl. He’s a druid of the swamp, and I had originally thought that they were limited to natural creatures, though I don’t think I found any reference later to this limitation.

So, any idea on this, or is it just up to us?

Hey guys, I’m running a PbP game of DW and I’ve got an awesome Paladin that is going to be playing in it. This is the first Paladin I’ve had in a game (lets be honest, this is only the second game I’ve ran) and so it’s the first time I’ve deeply looked at the class. I have a few questions:

One of the boons listed is ‘A mark of divine authority’. Can someone give me an idea of what this is, and how it might be useful? I can imagine that anyone who saw it would realize that you’ve been marked by the gods and so should respect/fear/idolize/possibly hate you and that could play out in so many ways.

The other question is about “I am the Law” – it mentions divine authority, but does that mean it needs the Mark listed above, or are they two separate things?

Thanks in advance!

Not sure where to put this – I’ve decided to go ahead and kick off a PbP game of Dungeon World.

This is the first time I’ve ran DW in PbP, but I’ve done other games before. Looking to create the world with the players. Anyway, request to join if you’re interested:

Was just reading Mike Weem ‘s awesome post about his first session and saw comments about coming up with 7-9 results and I thought it might be cool to start a thread about that.

So – just to keep things focused, what are some cool ideas for 7-9’s on Hack & Slash?

I think I’m going to pay more attention to the range tags in the future and allow things to move from ‘close’ to ‘hand’ range on a 7-9, then have the player do a defy danger to get back out of range possibly so they can use their close weapon.

Tom Miskey had a cool idea of having the weapon get stuck in the corpse – I love that idea, and I’ll definitely be using it!

Quick question about Bonds:

How many can a character take? Is there a limit, other than reason?

I remember seeing a post on here that someone said that you can only have as many bonds as there are bonds listed on the playbook. Is that the case? If so, anyone know where that’s detailed?

Thanks!

So I started my first campaign (first game!) of DW a couple of weeks ago and we all had a blast – the character creation was a lot of fun, and we got a lot of cool ideas going for the world (though I’ll probably post and ask for some ideas from you guys later about that too).

Anyway, one of the players decided to make a Wizard. He decided that his character was a magical researcher and was more into the research side of magic than the practical applications. So when he went to pick his spells, he decided on the following: Charm Person, Telepathy, Invisibility.

Here’s my concern: There will be combat. It’s not an entire party of researchers. So how do I keep things fun for this player? Last game he chose to have memorized Telepathy and Invisibility, and his only real move was turning Invisible then chasing after a fleeing orc (which he eventually lost).

Any ideas? Thanks!
