Quick question for those of you that attend (or would like to attend) gaming conventions. If you signed up to play in a Dungeon World game, would you rather the GM had a pre-made scenario or would you want to help create one at the table?

The past few conventions I’ve gone to I’ve run DW and had a great time. But I’m wondering if I could cut back my prep a little (or do different kinds of prep).

In my new DW/Eberron campaign I’m making a slight change to how XP is handled that my players love.

Whenever XP is earned (roll a 6-, end of session questions, bond resolution) the point is placed in a pool. At the end of the session XP from the pool are divided evenly among the players with leftover XP remaining in the pool until next week.

I was giving a friend of mine some pointers on running DW for his group the other day and something dawned on me I hadn’t really thought about before. I have bad guys use a lot of weapon types that often don’t see much use in other games but are great in DW because of the “other” things they can do. Couple of examples:

Bolas: can trip and entangle.

Whips: disarm, perform interesting maneuver, trip, and entangle.

Pole Arms: Keeping opponents away (most systems grant reach but don’t really allow you to keep an enemy off you).

Brass Knuckles: Stun, daze or even knock out.

Just a few thoughts related to doing things to characters other than simply Hit Point damage. Of course PC’s could easily take advantage of this as well!

Back from Dundracon. I ran two “official” DW games and a pick-up game for several people that didn’t get into one of the other ones. All were awesome sessions but a few quotes will stick with me:

“What? Wait, I’m inside the giant boar?”

“Can I spread my legs far enough to trap his head between my thighs?”

“Oh my god, don’t let any of those kids survive!”

I suppose some context could help, but then again maybe not…

Ran a one-shot last night for a group that’s never played DW before.

Ran a one-shot last night for a group that’s never played DW before. It went really well; except for the cleric. I watched this guy roll 11 consecutive 6-. I think he must have angered his god! Or his god was really wanting him to level up…
