Anyone know of any playbooks that are more Victorian era like?

Anyone know of any playbooks that are more Victorian era like? For instance Solomon Kane? Or even 1890’s Gothic London esque? I know there is Tremulus, for lovecraftian horror, but I feel the playbooks are very generic with no flavor like DW playbooks. Thanks

  1. Tremulus is a very different style of game than Dungeon World, so it’s not a good idea to compare the two. Can you simply just recolor the choices for normal playbooks? My fighter wears a tricorn hat and lace and has a rapier?

  2. Like Aaron Griffin said, you can just swap the tile set if you’re still playing a game of treasure hunting and monster slaying.

If you’re going for a different experience, maybe look at something like a reskin of Monsterhearts? It has a lot of interpersonal entanglement mechanics that could emulate Brontë-esque romance.

  3. Looking through my collection, try:

Grim World – the Battlemaster and the Slayer. Maybe the Channeler and the Templar.

Inverse World – the Collector, the Golem, and the Survivor. Maybe the Walker and the Mechanic .

Alternate Playbooks – The Artificer and the Templar

    The City Thief

    The Dashing Hero

    The Cultist by Jacob Randolph

    The Mountebank

    The Masked Mage

The Alchemist by ST Seusoff (might be a little OP but definitely fits)

    The Medic by Justin Watson

The Gunslinger from the War and Wonders Pack (kinda hard to find)

    The Fae by Adrian Thoen

    The Spellslinger (magic cowboy)

The Psion by Tombsgrave (and not Awful Good Games)

  4. I agree with Aaron Griffin and Marshall Brengle that the core classes can be easily recolored to fit most genres. Swap a bow for a flintlock, swap a staff for a brass topped cane, etc. I ran a Ravenloft inspired setting for a bit with the core classes and it was great. However, like a conservative’s pick for a Supreme Court judge, I’m a strict originalist. In the 5 years I’ve been running this game, I’ve never used anything but the core classes for some reason.
