My players will be entering into a jungle/lost world Island for the next several sessions.

Does anyone have leads on:

1. Jungle specific encounters?

2. Jungle themed adventures?

3. Art that could be used to enhance setting/imagination?

4. Tombs that are DW friendly and jungle themed?

TIA!!

  1. If you want something miniatures related – a good keyword search is “ghost archipelago”

Movie inspiration – Annihilation, Apocalypse Now, Jumanji

  2. Remember that not all encounters have to be combat related. Jungles are renown for being deadly environments. Depending on the jungle you could have rains causing flash floods, quicksand, swarms of bugs that make areas inaccessible, ect.

  3. Some ideas I’ve used in the past:

    1. Night time hunting cat ambush

    2. Giant spider encounter (I had a chasm that could only be crossed via the giant spider webs that stretched across it)

    3. Encounter with natives (I used spider worshipping / ritual sacrificing tribe)

    4. Meeting a young green dragon or treant (knows the history of this place)

    5. River crossing with leeches, piranhas, or crocodiles

    6. Giant ape fighting a wyvern (do players intervene, or try to go undetected)

    7. Giant centipede (mine had psychic abilities)

    8. Horse stuck in quicksand (who’s horse was it…)

    9. Giant frog (I had it swallow the fighter’s beloved pet mule whole then sink into a swamp)

  4. As Patrick mentioned above – also they’re renown for unusual flora and fauna. Poisons, poisonous creatures, unusual plants and herbs and possible magical ingredients. Animals and insects with rare and sought after qualities.

  5. I’m running a DW game inspired by WotC’s Tomb of Annihilation. Lot of nice inspiration in the book.

    Noteworthy:

    Undead T-Rex

Yellow Musk Creepers and other carnivorous plants

Jungle spirits not unlike Miyasaki’s “Kodamas” from Mononoke Hime.

You can certainly search “Tomb of Annihilation” on google images for cool art.
