Looking for some alternative classes for Dungeon World

So I’m wondering what cool classes outside of the core exist. My definition of cool includes a flavorful character, not just “he’s a fighter that only uses garden tools”. Also the character needs to be well balanced compared with all the others. The final part of cool is free (okay, that’s more frugal than cool).

  1. There are so many out there that it’s kinda impossible to know what to mention without knowing what kind of character you want to play. Like, my favorite third party class is probably The Princess, but that’s not really helpful if you don’t want to play a character who makes heartfelt speeches, has a powerful nemesis, and is royalty with all that entails.

Side note, making the character flavorful is mostly the player’s job, not the playbook’s.

As a general suggestion, though: it’s not free, but Class Warfare gives a lot of playbook bang for fifteen bucks. It’s a kit for building playbooks out compendium classes, of which it contains quite a few. There are a few broken combinations, but the results will be balanced unless you go out of your way to make the results not balanced.

  2. Keeping it 100, James Etheridge to repeat, “making the character flavorful is mostly the player’s job, not the playbook’s”. I’ve heard nothing but good things about Class Warfare, so if you can afford it, and will get some use out of it, I doubt you’ll regret it. I also just posted this to another thread here: reddit.com – Complete List of Dungeon World Classes • r/DungeonWorld I find it useful to at least see what’s out there (even if they’re not all free)
